Kekepana deals in creative problem solving.  Our approach is to listen closely to what you want and then see what ideas we can come up with.  We almost always find something you can use.
  • What Can Kekepana Do For You?

    Let’s begin with what Kekepana has already done for others.  Just to scratch the surface:

    • Kekepana has organized and worked American pavilions at many of the world’s premier trade fairs, including CeBIT, Asian Aerospace, ANUGA, the Hannover Messe, ITB, Food & Hotel Asia, and many more.  We’re not talking rinky-dink here, but shows that make you money.  Kekepana can help you pick the right show and then take full advantage.


    • Negotiations are a specialty.  Kekepana was a U.S. negotiator of such agreements as the dispute settlement mechanisms currently used by the World Trade Organization, and the international codes on export subsidies, product standards, government procurement, trade in civil aircraft, customs valuation and import licensing.  
    • Good government relations is a must.  Kekepana has worked successfully with governments in Asia, Europe and Latin America on everything from major procurements to product standards issues to genetically modified organisms to privacy issues.  Hey, Kekepana even knows how to get along well with Washington.
    • Effective marketing is rooted in excellent market research.  Kekepana has done it and knows where to find it.  We also know that the best market research is often negative.  Many consultants don’t give you the bad news.  We will, and then we’ll help you find a better target.

    • The next step is creative marketing.  Kekepana has helped sell everything from spacecraft to condoms.  ‘Nuff said.
    • Kekepana loves working with small companies, helping them get into international markets and gloating over their first successes.  He got the biggest kick out of helping a small woman-owned firm sell car wax to the likes of Toyota and Mazda.
    • Going after major projects is a high-stakes game.  Kekepana helped the winners of five out of the six lines of the Taipei metro system, helped win the largest contract in commercial aviation history, and enabled U.S. firms to win the prime contracts for Singapore’s light rail system.
    • Government procurements are equally tricky.  Kekepana’s work was critical to selling Sikorsky Blackhawks to the Austrian government, their breakthrough sale in the European Union.  His work with McDonnell Douglas helped break the monopoly for launching European satellites.
    • You don’t want to go it alone in investment negotiations either.  Kekepana’s advice and lobbying was instrumental in helping American energy companies enter Germany in the face of an entrenched oligopoly.
    • Changing the trade policies of governments can be a drawn-out affair, but if that is what your company needs, let’s talk about it.  Kekepana’s policy work led to changing Austria’s product standards on snow chains (really), enabled foreign wine, beer and tobacco to be sold in Taiwan, and helped sell chocolate nut cluster machines in Germany (yum!).  
    • Kekepana offers customized training to companies trying to build their international expertise.

What Doesn’t Kekepana Do?


We don’t take an academic approach.  There are plenty of International Business 101 classes and we urge you to use them.  Kekepana’s approach is brainstorming with you and your people to find solutions that actually work.  Kekepana can’t know your business as well as you do, so there isn’t any sense in lecturing you.  Let’s spend our time instead examining assumptions, taking a look at what has worked and what hasn’t worked.  Then we combine your knowledge of the business with Kekepana’s knowledge and experience of multiple markets and methods.  

No rip-offs.  If what you need can be provided free or at low cost elsewhere, Kekepana will push you in that direction.  American companies should go straight to www.export.gov, the portal for U.S. Government export programs.  Other countries offer similar things and should be used.  Kekepana has seen other consultants charge many thousands of dollars for these same programs - we won’t pull those shenanigans.  You can pay Kekepana to navigate the programs for you, if you don’t have the time to do it yourself, but we’re not going to pass off others’ good work as our own.

We don’t try to do everything.  For instance, Kekepana has no particular expertise in logistics, so we won’t try to tell you that we do.  We can refer you to some good folks we know, or we can bring them into a larger project, but we don’t do logistics.  Similarly, Kekepana doesn’t take title to goods or act as a trading company.  We’re simply not set up to do that.

Finance is our weak point.  We may be able to send you to some good people, but finance is not in our core competence.
